When AI Can Help, Choose Purple

Artificial intelligence tools are becoming more common in teaching, research, and administrative activities across the University. Faculty and staff are using AI to summarize information, analyze documents, generate ideas, write code, support research, and create new materials.

If AI Plays a Role in Your Work, Choose Purple

Purple is the UW’s generative AI tool, available in a UW-supported environment to faculty, staff, and students.

Purple is designed to support the thoughtful use of institutional, research, and personal information. Conversations in Purple are not used to train publicly available models, and the tool allows users to manage conversations and control retention. As with any technology, users should follow responsible use guidelines.

What Purple Can Do

Through Purple, users can:

  • Choose from multiple approved AI models for different tasks.
  • Upload and analyze documents, images, spreadsheets, and other materials.
  • Summarize information, generate content, and explore ideas.
  • Create custom agents tailored to specific tasks and workflows.
  • Access UW-specific guidance, training materials, and support resources.

Artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly. As new models and capabilities emerge, Purple will continue to evolve alongside them, providing access to the latest tools within a trusted, UW-supported environment.

If you decide to incorporate artificial intelligence into your work, you are encouraged to make Purple your first choice.
