ASTRA access management
ASTRA is a UW access management service that stores authorization information about who can use a variety of UW administrative applications and other resources. You can use it to manage roles and permissions.
BI Portal
The UW Business Intelligence (BI) Portal offers customizable reports and data dashboards for key areas like Student, Finance, HR/Payroll, and Research Administration. It includes multi-dimensional data cubes for in-depth analysis. An ASTRA role and permission are required to access BI Portal's reports, dashboards, and cubes.
Canvas Learning Management System
Canvas LMS is the official learning management system of the UW. Canvas simplifies course management tasks: publishing course materials, grading, communicating with students, and more. Students can log in to Canvas to access course content, submit assignments and collaborate with peers and instructors.
Classroom Technology & Support
University classrooms are designed with standard feature sets incorporating a variety of installed equipment and bring your own device (BYOD) support. Academic Technologies also offers a small selection of audiovisual equipment for short-term and long-term reservation in support of credit-generating courses and special events scheduled in campus facilities.
Connecting to UW networks
Connect to UW Wi-Fi networks whether you're on-campus, in student housing, or off-campus. Learn when and how to use eduroam, UW MPSK, the University of Washington Wi-Fi network, Ethernet and UW's VPN, Husky OnNet (HON).
Document Management System (DMS)
The UW Document Management System (DMS), powered by DocFinity, efficiently manages electronic records, ensuring compliance, security, and longevity. It allows you to standardize metadata, simplify digital records management processes, store scanned documents, integrate through APIs, and retain electronically signed documents.
Domain Names and Network Addresses
To connect to the UW’s network, your device requires a dynamic or static IP address depending on your needs. Most devices use Dynamic IP addresses, automatically assigned via DHCP, making it easy to move across campus without reconfiguration. For fixed IP needs, such as servers, static IPs are available. UW-IT offers static IP support through the Networks Portal.
Email Infrastructure
UW-IT’s Email Infrastructure provides a collection of capabilities for sending and receiving @uw.edu email, including email forwarding, email filtering, virtual email domains, and SMTP submission services.
Enterprise Data Warehouse
The Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) is UW’s secure, central system that integrates current and historical data from many sources to support operational reporting and strategic analysis. You can access off-the-shelf reports and analytics or query the data directly for more specific needs.
Enterprise Web Services
The UW’s Enterprise Web Services (EWS) are a secure collection of APIs for data integration across multiple UW systems. It enables enterprise business applications to access commonly shared source data in scalable, real-time and highly available architecture.
eSignatures
eSignatures, powered by DocuSign, is available for free to current UW staff and faculty for UW business purposes. This service allows you to send documents for electronic signatures, receive and sign documents securely on various devices, and manage document status and reminders.
GradePage
GradePage is the official online grade submission tool for the UW. It is integrated with UW’s Canvas, so you can import and convert Canvas grades for submission.
Husky OnNet
Husky OnNet (HON) is a free VPN for UW students, faculty, and staff, providing secure remote access to the University of Washington network. Use Husky OnNet to access UW campus-restricted resources, including teaching tools, research databases, and departmental servers, from anywhere.
Keynes
Keynes is the UW’s access control system designed to provide entry to various administrative and student database (SDB) applications. Through Keynes, users can access systems such as Budget (BGT), Student System (SDB), Financial (FIN), and Purchasing Systems (PAS), with specific access needs addressed based on role and department.
Knowledge Navigator
Knowledge Navigator is a web tool for UW data users to understand enterprise data for informed decision-making. It explores business terms and definitions across UW data domains.
LastPass Enterprise Password Manager
LastPass Enterprise is a UW CISO approved browser-based password management tool. LastPass Enterprise enables you to improve your password management practices by allowing you to create, store, share, automatically fill, reset and manage passwords.
Learning Technologies Workshops and Training
Learning Technologies offers free workshops to current UW faculty and staff for core UW teaching tools: Canvas, Panopto Lecture Capture, Poll Everywhere Classroom Response and Zoom Video Conferencing. They also provide workshops for creative tools, digital video editing systems and digital productivity software, including Adobe tools, Audacity, Final Cut Pro, Excel, R Studio and more.
Mailman Email List Manager
UW Mailman is the University of Washington's web-based email list manager for courses and group discussions. It lets list owners create, modify, and manage email lists, control posting permissions and archive emails.
Managed Workstation Service
The Managed Workstation Service provides workstation computers for UW faculty, staff and departments. You can connect remotely, store files online, manage security, and maintain updates.
Microsoft Infrastructure
The UW's Microsoft Infrastructure offers a range of capabilities to support Microsoft technologies. Available services include Active Directory Delegated OUs for computer management, Entra ID for cloud-based identity services, integration with UW NetID for authentication, Windows domain management via trust, Entra ID authentication, name resolution services, and Microsoft license activation.
MyPlan Academic Planner
MyPlan is an online academic planner for UW students. Use it to map out your course schedule, explore undergrad programs, plan your academic year, select backup courses and track your degree progress. You can also compare potential schedules before registration opens.
MyUW
MyUW is your personal portal to the University of Washington. Signing in with your UW NetID displays an overview of personal content and gives you access to Web resources you need to start your work at the University. Based on your affiliations with the University, MyUW provides a personalized set of resources.
Notify.UW
Notify.UW is a free tool that sends email and SMS notifications about course availability. UW NetID holders who subscribe to Notify.UW can choose to be notified via email and/or SMS text message when classes they are interested in become available during quarter registration.
Panopto Lecture Capture
Panopto is UW's official lecture capture solution. Panopto allows for easy recording and reviewing of videos from courses, lectures, and presentations. As a cloud-enabled service, Panopto is designed to simplify the lecture capture process.
Phones
The UW provides phone services, including desk phone setups, cell phone plans, and connections for customer equipment. Learn how to use UW campus phone features and extend services to cell, home phones or computers; set up voicemail, eFax, and text messaging; and find billing, policy, and directory management information.
Poll Everywhere
Poll Everywhere is the official audience response system of the UW and is FERPA-compliant. It allows you to collect student questions and answers to polls and quizzes to determine student understanding, lead discussions and so on.
Productivity Platforms
The University of Washington offers both the UW Google and UW Office 365 productivity, collaboration, and email platforms.
Scout
Scout is an app available on the web, iOS and Android that allows students at the University of Washington to find campus study spaces, campus food and tech items by filtering by specific criteria, such as lighting, ambient noise, proximity to food and coffee, and availability of amenities. Information is available for all three UW campuses: Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell.
Shared Web Hosting
UW Information Technology offers shared web servers for the UW community. Connect to the hosting service, then choose tools like MySQL, WordPress, or Drupal for database and content management. Additional features include website redirection, URL forwarding, and usage analytics.
Single sign-on with UW NetID
Single sign-on (SSO) makes user authentication easier for customers to implement and for individuals to use. There are web integration options for SSO with UW NetID, including UW Shibboleth, UW Entra ID, UW Google for Education, Canvas Learning Management System and other cyberinfrastructure.
Tableau
Tableau Software provides powerful tools for creating data dashboards at UW. Whether you have a Tableau license or are a complete beginner, the UW Tableau Service supports your data analysis needs.
Technology Research & Initiatives
Researchers and data scientists in UW-IT's Academic Experience Design & Delivery (AXDD) center the user’s voice and experience for data and decision making. Their work comprises three areas: campus technology research, student and instructor success analytics, and usage of campus technology.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a layer of security when you sign in with your UW NetID. With 2FA, first you enter your password, then use a 2FA device to prove it’s really you. You can authenticate using Duo Mobile, a mobile phone, a landline, or a hardware token.
U Drive: Central File Storage for Users
U Drive is a central file storage solution available to UW students, faculty, and staff for easy access to files from anywhere, whether on- or off-campus. From on-campus, U Drive supports access via Windows, Mac, and Linux computers, with files available in real-time through the network. Use Husky OnNet to access it from off-campus.
UW Connect
UW Connect is a service management tool that streamlines UW departments' operations by integrating service requests, issues, and tasks into a single system on ServiceNow’s “Now” Platform. It allows for efficient record transfers, capturing customer requests through forms, and consistent communication through its case management system.
UW Event Calendar
UW Trumba is the University of Washington's central system for managing and promoting campus-wide and departmental events. It allows calendar administrators to embed calendars into websites, add event registrations, and display events across multiple calendars.
UW Google
UW Google is UW-IT’s implementation of the Google productivity, collaboration, and email platform known as Google Workspace for Education. The UW Google service offering is similar to Google’s consumer apps, but is free of advertising and has greater privacy protections.
UW NetIDs
Your personal UW NetID (and its password) provides access to many UW online services including MyUW and UW Email. Your UW NetID verifies who you are, ensures the privacy of your personal information, and restricts the use of UW resources to authorized users.
UW Office 365
UW Office 365 is UW-IT’s implementation of the Microsoft productivity, collaboration, and email platform known as Microsoft Office 365 Education. UW Office 365 provides quick, easy, and user-centered collaboration processes using Microsoft programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.
UW Zoom Video Conferencing
UW Zoom is an online video conferencing and collaboration tool available to University of Washington students, faculty and staff at no additional cost. You can use Zoom to host meetings and class sessions, share screens, collaborate with notes and whiteboards, record meetings and more.
UW-IT JupyterHub for Teaching
UW-IT JupyterHub for Teaching gives users access to cloud-based Jupyter Notebook environments without the hassle of installation and maintenance tasks. Jupyter Notebook is an open-source, interactive web application that allows users to create and share documents that contain live code, equations, visualizations, and narrative text.
Windows Managed Servers
UW-IT’s Windows Managed Servers service deploys and manages Windows servers so that departments can have access to a secure and stable environment to run their applications.
Workday
Workday is UW’s cloud-based solution for administrative functions such as HR, payroll, procurement, and finance.
