What is Purple?
Purple is UW’s secure enterprise tool for accessing approved generative AI models within UW’s Microsoft Azure environment. It is not a UW-developed foundation AI model or tool. Purple uses commercially available generative AI models delivered through nebulaONE®, a managed Azure-based platform from Cloudforce, integrated into UW’s enterprise infrastructure.
Purple supports teaching, learning, research, and administrative work across campuses. It provides a single, UW-managed AI environment with strong identity, access, security, and compliance controls.
Data entered into Purple remains within UW’s Azure environment and is not used to train public AI models. Purple is a productivity tool designed to assist with drafting, summarizing, organizing information, and more. It does not replace professional roles or human judgment. It also offers a safe place to learn and experiment, building AI skills while minimizing risks to UW data.
