Stay Safe: Guard Against Voice Phishing and AI Impersonation

Sophisticated voice phishing (vishing) attacks and AI-assisted impersonation are on the rise, targeting employees with the goal of stealing sensitive information. These tactics often use convincing voices and urgent requests to trick you into revealing confidential details. Staying cautious during unexpected calls is key to protecting yourself and the University of Washington.

Spot the Signs

  • Calls requesting sensitive information like passwords, multi-factor authentication (MFA) codes, or confidential data.
  • Urgent or high-pressure requests meant to rush your decision-making.
  • Familiar-sounding voices that may be generated using AI technology.

Protect Yourself and UW

  • Never share passwords, MFA codes, or other sensitive information over the phone.
  • If a call seems suspicious, hang up and call back using a trusted number.
  • Report suspicious calls to help@uw.edu with “Voice Phishing” in the subject line.

By staying vigilant, you help safeguard your personal information and contribute to a safer UW community. Learn more about protecting yourself against phishing and impersonation
