The following technology tips can help students succeed at the UW:
- Get the most out of the IT website: Find IT tools, software, services, and resources that support your success at UW.
- Connect to the wireless network: UW Wi-Fi is available in most buildings and many outdoor areas on campus. We recommend eduroam, a secure, encrypted wireless network.
- Borrow equipment and download software: Borrow laptops, cameras, tablets, and more for free through the Student Technology Loan Program. You can also find free or reduced-cost software through the UW Software Catalog (UWare).
- Choose your UW email service: UW offers UW Gmail and Exchange Online. Choose the service that works best for you. Visit the Manage Your UW NetID Resources site to learn more about your options.
- Collaborate with Microsoft or Google tools: You have access to Microsoft Office 365 and UW Google Apps. Both include familiar tools for creating, storing, and sharing documents.
- Explore Purple – AI for UW: Purple is UW’s generative AI tool. Use it to help you learn, create, and explore new ideas as you develop your academic and creative work.
- Find an open seat in a class: Notify.UW can alert you by text or email when space becomes available in a course during registration.
- Plan your academic path: MyPlan helps you find courses, compare programs, build a schedule, create an academic plan, and explore your options.
- Practice safe computing: Protect your computer, identity, and privacy with anti-virus software, and learn how to protect your email.
- Need tech help?: Visit the IT Get Help portal to find support resources, request help, and get answers to common technology questions..
Note that the Student Tech Fee, paid per-quarter by UW students, helps finance many of the IT tools and services available through the IT website.
