Purple

Purple is the University of Washington’s enterprise generative AI tool. It provides a ChatGPT-like interface for interacting with approved AI models and serves as the University-supported alternative to public AI tools, with UW’s privacy and security commitments in mind. Purple can support: 

  • Helping draft, edit, and summarize content 
  • Assisting in analysis 
  • Helping with technical and coding challenges 
  • Brainstorming and problem-solving

License Details

  • Named User Licenses are assigned to individual users.
  • A license cannot be assigned to a shared UW NetID.

Restrictions and Information Security Policies: 

  • Contractors or Contingent workers are not automatically eligible for Purple. Please submit a request to Purple Support for an exception.
  • Use Purple only for university-related purposes (academic, research, etc.). If you are unsure whether your design questions contain or request sensitive data, contact the UW Privacy Office for guidance.
  • Personal use is prohibited for faculty and staff.

When using Purple, you must follow the University’s Privacy policies, which were developed by the UW Office of Information Security and UW Privacy Office.
