ChatGPT Edu

ChatGPT Edu is a virtual assistant that can answer questions, draft documents, summarize text, create images, and automate processes. Through an enterprise agreement with OpenAI, the University of Washington provides access to ChatGPT Edu, ensuring University data is securely stored and not used to train models. ChatGPT Edu offers advanced language capabilities, image generation, and custom agents.

This ChatGPT Edu version does not include the OpenAI API. For AI API Access, please review the Azure Subscription Service.

ChatGPT Edu in UWare is experimental, and its future presence in the catalog is not guaranteed.

Credit Usage

Please note that some actions in ChatGPT Edu require credits. Our contract allows for an average usage of 200 credits per person per month. If a user is identified as using an excessive number of credits per month, UWare may reach out to request that they minimize their use of ChatGPT Edu credits. If the licensee continues to use too many credits, their license may be revoked. Unfortunately, there is currently no way for an individual to track their credit usage. Existing @uw.edu accounts

When you accept an invite to a ChatGPT EDU workspace, you will join a collaborative workspace shared with other team members. If you also have a ChatGPT Personal workspace with your @uw.edu account, you will have one of 2 options:

1. Keep your ChatGPT Personal workspace. This allows you to keep your data from your Personal workspace separate from your EDU workspace, which you can access when you switch between workspaces.
2. Merge your ChatGPT Personal workspace into your EDU workspace. This allows you to migrate data from your Personal workspace to your EDU workspace, creating a unified workspace. This option will delete your personal workspace after migration.

If you migrate your data, it is then considered part of the EDU workspace. If you lose access to your EDU workspace, you will also lose access to the migrated data. This means that if you ever leave or are removed from the EDU workspace, or if the workspace is deactivated, you will lose access to all your data. More details.

How to Get ChatGPT Edu

• UW Faculty and Staff

  Named User Licenses are available for purchase for faculty and staff.

  • Purchase requires valid UW worktags and authorization from a budget approver.
  • No Procurement cards or direct sales to individuals are available.

License Details

• Who Can Use It: ChatGPT Edu is unavailable to people affiliated with UW Medical Center, School of Medicine, or UW Medicine.
• Individual licenses cannot be assigned to a shared UW NetID.
• This software is available through an annual subscription, with the license period running from February 1 through January 31.
• UWIT cannot prorate or refund the cost of the software subscription.
• UWIT will automatically bill your UW funding source at the start of each license term, beginning February 1 of each fiscal year.
• Licensing: Licenses may not be transferred to another UW NetID. A cancelled Subscription will result in loss of service at the end of the licensing term for the originally licensed party.

Modifying a Subscription

To transfer, cancel, or update a subscription worktag at any time, submit the Manage My Subscription Form. Cancellation requests must be submitted no later than December 1, and the subscription will end on January 31.

Additional Information

• Chat History: If you join the UW version of ChatGPT Edu, your existing chat history will be migrated to the UW-managed system. This change is permanent. If you want to keep a copy or remove your history, please do that before joining.
• API Access: This ChatGPT Edu version does not include access to the OpenAI API.
