Uninstall Sophos from UW-owned Device
Contact your department’s IT support team to uninstall Sophos and install CrowdStrike Falcon.
Uninstall Sophos from a UW-owned device yourself using the following instructions.
Windows Instructions
- Open the Start Menu > Settings > Apps
- Find Sophos Endpoint Agent and click Uninstall
Or run SophosUninstall.exe from C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Endpoint Agent

Mac OSX Instructions
- Press Command + Spacebar and search for “Remove Sophos”
- Run the Remove Sophos utility
- If not available, use the command line uninstall script or contact Sophos support

What to do if these instructions are not working
Some user-managed UW-owned devices are running Sophos Home instead of Sophos Enterprise. If you cannot uninstall using the prior instructions, you should follow the Sophos Home uninstall instructions here for Macs and here for Windows or email help@uw.edu with “Sophos Home” in the title.
Uninstall Sophos From a Personal Device (Non-UW-Owned)
Failing to uninstall Sophos by Aug. 30 may slow your device and leave it unprotected.
Windows Instructions
- Click on Start or the search bar, type “programs”, and press Enter to launch
- Double-click on Sophos Home from the list of the installed programs
- In some cases, you may be prompted to restart the computer first before uninstalling Sophos Home. Simply click on Close and reboot the machine first. Then, follow the steps 1 and 2 again. Otherwise, proceed to step 3.
- Click on the Uninstall button and wait for the process to finish
- Restart your computer to complete the removal process

Mac OSX Insructions:
- Press Command + Spacebar, type “Remove Sophos home”, and press Enter
- Click on Continue in the uninstallation window then follow the on-screen prompts
- Enter your Mac’s password then click on Install Helper
- Wait for the uninstallation to finish then click Close
- Restart your Mac to complete the removal process

After removing Sophos your system’s default antivirus protection should start running. Most operating systems include built-in tools:
- Windows: Windows Defender is built in.
- macOS: XProtect is built in.
- Linux: Can use ClamAV (download it here)
