The Access Technology Center offers a wide array of hardware and software optimized for people with visual, cognitive/learning, speech, motor and other disabilities. Examples include:
- Screen reading software
- Screen enlargement software
- Speech-to-text software
- Text-to-speech software
- Optical Character Recognition software
- Ergonomic keyboards and mice
- Adaptive Technology for computer input
Furniture
Chairs and desks can greatly impact comfort and physical stress when using a computer. The ATC provides a showroom for adjustable chair and desk options as well as some keyboard trays and footrests. Current information about furniture is maintained by UW’s Environmental Health & Safety office and can be found at their relevant web page.
Libraries
All Windows computers in Odegaard Undergraduate Library and most in Suzzallo Library have accessible software installed to assist those needing assistive technology to study, work, or socialize. Examples include:
- JAWS and NVDA (screen reading)
- Zoomtext (screen enlargement)
- ClaroRead, NaturalReader, and Balabolka (text to speech)
Accessible Study Room — Suzzallo 327
An accessible study room is available for reservation in Suzzallo 327. Priority is given to students with disabilities. Request the keycode at the Suzzallo or Allen Info Desks.
