An important part of our mission is to promote a culture of information security in the UW community. See the sections below to find out more about collaborative and educational opportunities:

Information Security Forum

Members of the UW community share the responsibility to protect personal and University data.

To support this effort, Information Security hosts meetings covering cybersecurity, privacy, identity and access management, and resilience topics. These sessions are designed to share updates, provide education, and spark conversation across the UW community.

Open to all UW personnel, including non-technical and technical audiences.

Details

  • Frequency: Quarterly meetings January, April, July, October
  • When: 2nd Thursday of the month, 1:00-1:50 PM with Office Hours 1:50-2:20 PM
  • Where: MS Teams Meeting

Information Security Training

Looking to boost your information security knowledge and skills? UW-IT offers a variety of synchronous and asynchronous online training for general and technical audiences alike. Check out the list on our Training page.

Information Security Advocates

Members of the UW Information Security Advocates group have a desire to learn about and promote a culture of information security throughout the UW community. We are interested in both the technical and the human-driven aspects of information technology and ways to identify and manage risks.

Objectives

  • Partner with Information Security to develop and promote security and privacy practices and awareness materials
  • Build relationships that support two-ways exchange of information to help reduce cybersecurity risk
  • Foster problem-solving and cooperation on information security matters across the UW community
  • Share expertise and experiences addressing information security and privacy challenges and developing solutions

 

Participation

  • Attend Information Security Forum meetings
  • Contribute to the Information Security Advocates MS Team
