How to Get SPSS

Students

• Current UW Students are licensed to use SPSS free of charge on personal computers. Click here to download the installer and authorization code.

Faculty, Staff, or UW-Owned Lab Computers

• Faculty and staff may purchase SPSS through UWare by filling out the purchase request form “Order SPSS” below.
• Concurrent licenses are available for lab computers on campus or connected via VPN. We recommend purchasing several licenses equal to the maximum number of computers expected to be used concurrently.
• Dealing with a concurrent license requires installing Sentinel LM (License Manager) from IBM. The authorization code is entered in the LM server. SPSS is configured to access the Sentinel LM you installed to check out the license. The local IT support team should be involved in deploying this license type.
• Purchase requires a valid UW funding source via worktags and authorization from a budget coordinator.
• No Procurement cards or direct sales to individuals are available.
• SPSS is available through an annual subscription, with the license period running from July 1 through June 30.
• UW-IT cannot prorate or refund the cost of the SPSS license subscription.
• UW-IT will automatically bill for the SPSS license in the next license cycle. Do NOT submit a new purchase request for an existing SPSS license.

License Details

• Attention Mac OS 14 “Sonoma” users: If you have upgraded your OS, you must install an IBM fix for SPSS. The fix pack is in the first table labeled “SPSS FIX PACKS” on this page. 
• The authorized user license is assigned to an individual. The client application may be installed on up to two devices and is only available to that specific user.
• An individual license can not be assigned to a shared UW NetID.
• You must reactivate your SPSS license every year. The Authorization codes are provided here, and IBM provides renewal instructions here.
• UW-IT’s annual subscription billing is automatic:
UW-IT will automatically bill your UW funding source for this software subscription in the next license term, which begins every (fiscal) year on July 1.
• Do you need to reassign the license to another person? You can make a reassignment request anytime during the subscription period by going to Manage My Subscriptions and completing the request form to transfer the subscription.
• Should you need to cancel the subscription:
If you decide not to continue with another subscription term, you can stop UW-IT’s automatic billing and cancel the subscription. Canceling means your subscription will end on June 30. Use the Manage My Subscriptions Form, and do so no later than June 1.
