How to Get SPSS

Students

• Current UW Students are licensed to use SPSS free of charge on personal computers. Download the installer and authorization code.

Faculty, Staff, or UW-Owned Lab Computers

• Concurrent licenses are available for lab computers on campus or connected via VPN. We recommend purchasing several licenses equal to the maximum number of computers expected to be used concurrently.
• Dealing with a concurrent license requires installing the IBM Sentinel LM (License Manager). The authorization code is entered in the LM server. SPSS is configured to access the Sentinel LM you installed to check out the license. The local IT support team should be involved in deploying this license type.
• Attention Mac OS 14 “Sonoma” users: If you have upgraded to OS 14, you must install an IBM fix for SPSS. The fix pack is in the first table labeled “SPSS FIX PACKS” on this page. 
• The authorized user license is assigned to an individual. The client application may be installed on up to 2 devices and is available only to that specific user.
• Purchase requires a valid UW funding source via worktags and authorization from a budget coordinator.
• No Procurement cards or direct sales to individuals are available.

License Details

• Users must reactivate the SPSS license each year, a separate process from renewing the subscription. Authorization codes and IBM’s renewal instructions are available to guide you through the reactivation process.
• Individual licenses cannot be assigned to a shared UW NetID.
• This software is available through an annual subscription, with the license period running from July 1 through June 30.
• UWIT cannot prorate or refund the cost of the software subscription.
• UWIT will automatically bill your UW funding source at the start of each license term, beginning July 1 of each fiscal year.

Modifying a Subscription

To transfer, cancel, or update a subscription worktag at any time, submit the Manage My Subscription Form. Cancellation requests must be submitted no later than June 1, and the subscription will end on June 30.
